If only we'd known what we looked like in the bike helmets
before we took the photos!!
So it's me today as Kz is sitting beside me rendered useless to all human movement as she is nursing a sore butt from our 18km bike ride round the vineyards today! We finally managed to meet up with Zanna at the airport yesterday despite the nasty man at the domestic terminal who wouldn't let her on the free shuttle bus to the international where we had gone to pick up the car even when she pointed out that it was 'free' and therefore what was the problem?!! and arrived at Margaret River yesterday evening having managed to avoid hitting any kangaroos on the way, which people keep seeming to think will be a problem for me - this is before they've even seen me drive!
We were all very excited this morning about our 'Sip n Cycle' tour although slightly concerned that it was going to be all sporty boys wanting to 'go for it' rather than ride along at a sedate girly pace and stop on any hills, if so required (although as pointed out to the guide, it doesn't count as stopping if you don't put both feet down!) so you can imagine our relief when we turned up and found that it was the three of us, one other english girl and our guide!
Zanna getting to grips with balance once the stabilisers were removed!
We soon discovered that it was possible to taste 5 whites and 5 reds at each vineyard (we went to 5!) which is why we were quickly warned that the same drink driving laws apply on bikes as well as in the car! However, our guide also assured us that we could eat as much as we wanted at lunch as by the time we got there we'd definitely be in negative calories!
Between each vineyard we took the scenic route through the forest and were thrilled to spot our first kangaroos - Zanna particularly as she'd been all the way to the outback and not seen any!
Eek! Here they come!
We finished up at the Stella Bella vineyard - and with wines called Skuttlebutt and Suckfizzle how could we not buy some?!!
Now we're off to enjoy drinking them.....
It was sunny and hot most of the time - honest!!!
I love a good Xanadu wine!! They do a nice CAB SAV.. or CHHAARRRRRdonay... (said in best aussie drawl)' .......
