Firstly, mid December heralded the arrival of Carey & James, on their whistle stop tour of the Antipodes (and Hong Kong!)
Unfortunately, as always seems to happen when Carey arrives in New Zealand the weather let us down and was more than dismal most of the time. (Honestly – it had barely rained for months!) Still, Carey managed to put on a brave face in a rain drenched Coromandel and finally the sun came out on their last day in Auckland – Carey’s sunburnt sock marks were a testament to that!
Our slightly wet pictures are below:
Braving Hot Water Beach in the rain
When it rains...we pour!
Determined to track down some sunshine with them, KZ and I followed them to Sydney on Christmas Day and we were all very kindly put up by Neeka and her lovely parents. On our first evening we arrived to an extremely warm and humid Sydney night – good sign we thought, only to wake the next morning to torrential rain. So we decided to go to the meeting that morning and go to the beach that afternoon come what may! And we were blessed for our efforts – not only did we get to catch up with Matt & Fi and Charlotte & Richard – by the time the meeting had finished the sun came out and we decided to make pilgrimage to .....you’ve guessed it....Summer Bay!
Now, for those of you that don’t know about Carey and my Home and Away addiction, this is the point where we come clean! A night wasn’t complete in Heathfield Road without it (even sometimes watching on catch up what we’d missed!) so to both be able to go in person, was beyond exciting!
The excitement gets too much..
Unfortunately, Carey and James had to leave the next day, but were replaced by DZ, who also managed to bring rain with him and touched down in a rain drenched Sydney.
Undeterred, we decided to took Dz on a tour of the Sydney sights before taking refuge in a cafe in the Rocks.
I think all in all Dz was undecided about Sydney – having to put up with non-stop female companionship for three days (apart from some respite in the form of Matt and Fi very kindly having us to dinner) and every time we went for a drink it was to a bar that had nothing on tap – still, on the plus side, he got to be in Australia when England won the Ashes and be on Manly Beach the day before it was shut for sharks!
